Nearly after two years, Ajith Kumar is back to the silver screen with his spy thriller Vivegam. The film, which released on Friday, has opened to overwhelming response from fans. Despite mixed reviews, Vivegam has broke the box-office records of Kabali and has raked in 1.21 crore in Chennai. As per early trade estimates, the film is said to have grossed Rs 20 crore in Tamil Nadu and is expected to gross Rs 30 cr worlwide. Vivegam has received fantastic opening in overseas market as well. In the US, it is said to have earned Rs 1.38 crore on its opening day. Vivegam saw 95 per cent occupancy in theatres on Friday.
According to a report in The Hindu, Viveham is expected to gross Rs 35 crore in domestic box office. If reports are to be believed, the Ajith Kumar-starrer is very likely to beat the opening day numbers of superstar Rajinikanth’s Kabali, which reportedly minted Rs 21 crore on its first day.
Released in over 3000 screens worldwide, Vivegam received terrific response in advance booking option. It has gotten very good response in Kerala and Andhra Pradesh as well.
Vivegam tracks the life story of an Interpol officer (Ajith Kumar) and the set of events that has happened in his life. The film also stars Kajal Aggarwal, Vivek Oberoi and Akshara Haasan in important roles.
Made on a whopping budget of Rs 100 crore, the distribution and satellite rights have been bagged for a record price. The theatre owners are expecting high returns at the box office
